We finally splashed out on a bathroom makeover in a 1960s house. Same bath from start. My awful tiling and mould- attracting sea shells. We found national chains pushy and reviews iffy. At Norbreck Bathroom and Tile Centre I felt reassured, confident we were in the right hands. Front of house Donna's ability to put even the most anxious oldie at ease was enviable - for this carer. And our fitter Josh was able to deal with my 86 year old mum at her most fractious.
The job took the better part of 3 weeks - an entirely one man (Josh) job - a skip parked outside raided by visiting recyclers turning Ma into its territorial guardian. I got permission to park on the drive of the house opposite by the owner -which eased parking pressures on street.
Josh left the house tidy each night, brick dust gone and all. The work wasn't entirely without hitch - a new comfort height toilet with irritatingly clingy toilet seat turned up with a break in the seat. The semi pedestal for matching sink was cracked. However, both were dealt with speedily and Josh moved to the next element until new parts arrived. After a hissy fit by Ma over grab rails she'd signed off on (!) I got new ones, via my Screwfix account - no hassle. Josh's tiling is superb, lined up with precision via laser levelling and his advice to complement more conventional tiles with a dry stone wall-like insert contrasting on opposite walls was inspired. Nicely tiled floor too; door taken off and sanded to suit the difference in height, emphasis on aesthetics extending to the whole process. Sadly, we didn't opt for a new door or painting the ceiling - and the bare light bulb, not great with condensation, and ye olde pull cord was left in place although it was supposed to be getting changed to a safer thermal light. But there's a lovely walk in shower now. I don't have to leg it over a bath and cower at the end until heat comes through. Sadly, Ma died May 1 2024 but the shower, delayed after her health crashed after a row with a friend, proved a great qualify of life transformer. I'm left with Grab Bar City Agogo, but it's beginning to help me too. I did a lot of vascular damage to my legs decluttering downstairs to make way for a hospital bed for Ma towards the end.
Some observations for improvement: companies are not obliged to supply receipts but it's courteous to do so. We've got one for labour and tiles but fixtures and fittings made up a fair chunk of the costs and we'd have liked it all itemised.Costs increased with add-ons on site as we went along and ultimately it cost well over £7k - but it is a great investment.
We also needed a residual circuit breaker/control unit - something I'd asked about (albeit mistaking it for an isolator switch, which we had) ahead of the job being costed out.. We were told pretty much on the last day by the boss that it was needed and a young electrician recommended by the company turned up later to to sort it out (and the light). The latter wasn't touched and we never got the certification required for the circuit breaker and control unit in spite of emails requesting such. No wonder, really, as a major rewire of the house revealed it wouldn't have been signed off - so they sorted it and a thermal light (and no more pull cord).
Summary, five stars for Josh, his work ethic, and patience with Ma. 4 stars for front of house Donna for advice and empathy. . Three stars for some of the kit installed - things fall off such as waterproof strips, some sink fittings, taps revolve and it's hard for me to tighten them at the back. 1 star for lack of details of fittings and fixtures, user/manufacturer guides, information on guarantees and post purchase customer service. (We weren't that bad, were we?) And zero star for for leaving the old fashioned bare light bulb in place when it was clearly a risk and installing a circuit breaker and control unit which was never certified. I'd still recommend Norbreck Bathrooms - but get the information you need. And, Josh.

I cannot speak highly enough of the standard of workmanship and quality of the bathroom furnishings supplied by Norbreck Bathroom and Tile Centre. Our bathroom was transformed from a rather boring small square space into some rather more luxurious nor was it beyond our fixed budget. Remarkable in itself.

Josh, the bathroom specialist, was a delightful young man who knew his business and his advice was invaluable, meticulous in his workmanship, and a pleasure to deal with.

A highly recommended company.

I used Norbreck Bathrooms to refurbish my bathroom. Not only did I get a new suite, but also floor, ceiling, windows and tiled walls too. One our bigger investments in the house I was apprehensive and spent some time researching. I can not fault the service and finished product from this company, from selection, through installation and final finish they were helpful in the selection, careful in their installation and meticulous in their attention to detail of the finished product. The little things like putting down the carpet protector, and checking what colour/shade sealant made the overall finish exceed our expectations. I would recommend whole heartedly, with no hesitation.
