Opening times can vary depending on which staff are working in the Spar shop. The main post office section is open normal hours, but there is a small post office till in the Spar section that is supposed to be open until Spar shuts, but it is often closed without warning. Staff can be rude & unhelpful or very polite & helpful it totally depends who's working. Try to visit during normal post office hours to be safe, but expect to queue for up to half an hour as there's rarely more than one person serving, regardless of how many people are queueing.

My experience beggars belief. I joined a queue of five people, which moved at a snail's pace due to the cashier's constant yabbering, instead of getting on with the job. Finally, two people ahead of me and the woman customer at the desk is blathering on about sending a parcel which it then appears she is unable to pay for on her mobile as she needs a credit card to complete her transaction and will need to go home to get it. With that, the cashier (who looks to be past retirement age) asked the customer to go home to get her card whilst she waited for her. This meant the cash desk was in effect frozen and everyone in the queue..........which had now grown to four, would have to come back later, as she was no longer able to process any more transactions at her computer. I was speechless at the absolute absurdity of the situation and utter incompetence of this woman, who should have been pensioned off years ago and is totally unfit to be behind a counter. Although I live locally, it's no surprise I haven't been back since.

It's listed as open until 10pm 7 days a week, the Spar shop might be open those hours but the post office counter definitely isn't. I wouldn't risk going to it after 17.30 Mon - Fri or at the weekend. Maybe the people who run the post office could update the listing with accurate times

Came twice, first day was a lad served me with very helpful and professional attitude, today was a middle age woman who is very slow so got long queue which is fine to me, but then when it’s my turn I got some problems I’d like to sort out, she said to me we got a long queue behind you...and she is not willing to help because of this long queue...I was like excuse me?! The reason why there is a long queue is because you are SLOW. Stupid cow 🙂

Love Bakewell, hate this post office. No surprise that post offices in other stores like this spar shop are dreadful. Buxton post office in McColls is equally bad. Enquiry as to a price for delivery of a small package was license for the old boiler serving, that was a sale, and cause she had put it through it was done and dusted.. I told her the price was scandalous and to forget it. I took it to my local post office, Buxton market place, the cashier folded over the envelope, taped it down and charged me correctly, as per Ebay recommendations. Top service, not from the spar post office in Bakewell. AVOID UNLESS DESPERATE.
